Grieg's music was brought to the U.S. by Marta Sandal, a Norwegian singer who worked with Grieg. Ms. Sandal later settled in North Dakota with her husband.

Franz Liszt (1811 - 1886) was a world renowned Hungarian- born composer. Liszt lived in Paris for many years and Grieg's meeting with him was an important event in Grieg's life. It gave Grieg encouragement and public acceptance in a difficult period.
