romanticized account of the career of T.E. Lawrence (1888 -
1935). Lawrence was a legendary British Intelligence officer

Before the First World War the empire of the Ottoman Turks
governed most of Arabia. Turkey sided with
Germany during the War. Promising the Arabs independence
after the war, the British and French governments encouraged the Arabs to revolt.
Lawrence was part of this effort. He and Prince Faisal
carried out a successful guerilla campaign against Turkish
rail supply lines. The Arabs, accompanied by Lawrence,
conquered the city of Damascus in 1918.
